Risk Assessment Approach

Risk assessments underpin every WVA activity. We use proportionate, activity-specific assessments that identify hazards, evaluate likelihood and impact, and set clear control measures and responsibilities.

Policy register Risk Assessment Approach

Method

  • Identify hazards (people, equipment, environment, safeguarding, data).
  • Evaluate risk using likelihood/severity and apply the hierarchy of control.
  • Record responsible persons, control measures, and residual risk before approval.

Documentation

All assessments are dated, versioned, and stored with the relevant activity pack. Dynamic assessments are encouraged on the day to capture changing conditions; material changes are documented and briefed to the team.

Review triggers

Reviews occur after incidents, near-misses, significant operational changes, or at least annually. The Health & Safety Coordinator ensures templates and guidance remain aligned with best practice and insurer requirements.
