Health & Safety Policy

We manage risk so activities remain safe, inclusive, and mission-focused. This policy sets health and safety roles, planning standards, and minimum controls for WVA events on land and afloat.

Responsibilities

  • Directors set policy, provide resources, and monitor compliance.
  • Activity leads complete risk assessments, brief teams, and ensure controls are in place.
  • All participants follow instructions, use PPE correctly, and report hazards immediately.

Planning controls

Every activity requires a risk assessment, suitable supervision ratios, emergency plan, welfare arrangements (including hydration and shelter), and equipment checks. High-risk tasks require competence evidence and, where applicable, skipper or instructor qualifications.

Monitoring and review

We review incidents, near-misses, and feedback after each activity, updating risk assessments and training. Formal annual reviews check compliance with legislation and insurance conditions.
